Introducing the DARTdrones Wings Program

As a drone pilot, you have challenges. And we’re not even talking about actual flying. Perhaps your company asked you to just figure out a program. Or you’ve had some training, but there’s no way to show your credentials. Or a clear path to additional specialization.

Many of our students have expressed these concerns. Simply passing your Part 107 certification isn’t enough. Flying real-world sUAS missions and proving an expert level of knowledge is critical. So, after months of expert planning with top aircraft pilots, we’re ready to present the new standard in drone credentials.

You now have a path to earn your wings. You can finally show proof to your organization and clients that you’ve reached a professional standard as a drone pilot. This all-in-one credential system is designed to reduce risk and ensure safety and success in commercial sUAS operations. And with additional specializations called endorsements, you can showcase additional expertise for a variety of special missions and verticals.

The DARTdrones Wings Program consists of three steps:

Your questions. Our answers.

Are the DARTdrones Wings a “certification”?

The DARTdrones Wings are a credential given by DARTdrones that verifies that a drone pilot has basic equipment knowledge, knowledge of Part 107 and related regulations, an active Remote Pilot Certificate from the FAA, and an understanding of flight assessment factors and how to respond to potential hazards and risks.

The DARTdrones Wings do not guarantee that a drone pilot will never have an accident. The DARTdrones Wings do not include an in-person assessment and cannot ensure that the pilot has adequate flight experience.

Do the DARTdrones Wings expire?

The DARTdrones Wings expire on the day that your Remote Pilot Certificate expires. To renew their Wings, students must take the assessments again as well as upload their new Remote Pilot Certificate. There is no fee to renew your Wings.

I am new to drones. Is this program too advanced?

Many people that take our courses are brand new to drones and flying for the first time in the class. The Wings Program starts with the basics for beginners, and then goes into more extensive sUAS knowledge through the Real-World Flight Planning and Execution Program.

What do I do if I already have my Part 107 and flight experience?

If you have already taken and passed your Part 107 remote pilot certification exam AND have flight experience, you can start at Step 3: Real-World Flight Planning and Execution Program.

How many days is the DARTdrones Wings Program?

This program includes one full day of Drone Pilot Flight Training, one full day of Part 107 in-person training, and then full access to our Real-World Flight Planning and Execution Program which is online and can be completed at your own pace.

Can I bring my drone? What type of drone is available?

Our instructor provides a drone in the course, typically a DJI Phantom Series sUAS. For insurance and liability purposes, students CANNOT fly their own equipment during the course unless they provide proof of liability insurance with DARTdrones LLC named as an additional insured prior to the course. Although our class covers the Mavic and Inspire, our instructors usually only have a Phantom which is sufficient for this level of training.

Any insurance company that offers coverage for sUAS flight is sufficient for this course.  Many students have used Verifly as their provider.  Verifly is available in most states and allows for coverage to be purchased by the hour.

After I complete Step 2 (Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification), when will I be ready to take my exam?

Although we cover all of the content that you will need to study for the test, many students want to spend study time with our online Part 107 Test Prep course, especially the practice tests. We recommend not booking your exam until after you complete our class and feel ready.

What if the class isn't offered in my city? What is my city is sold out?

We typically schedule one class per month in each city about 10-12 weeks in advance of a class. If your city is completely sold out, we recommend checking a nearby city, organizing a private group lesson (priced for 8 participants), or submitting a contact form as we do often have last minute cancellations.

Will the instructor from my in-person training be available if I have questions during the online class?

For any online course questions, students are directed to our Chief Pilot who built the curriculum and can help you find the right answer.

Will the flight training course be rescheduled due to inclement weather?

We truly care about the safety of our students. If travel becomes dangerous, we will postpone the course to a later date and you can always select a date that works for you. If travel is not dangerous, we will still hold the indoor portion of the class and will reschedule only the outdoor flying portion to a later date.
