Drones have proven themselves to be a valuable tool for home inspectors. They provide a safe and effective method to gather high definition imagery of roofs and other areas where damage can occur. Beyond visual imaging, thermal technology can also be utilized to identify water damage, faulty electrical components and insulation degradation. This two day intensive Workshop will teach you how to safely and effectively maneuver your aircraft in order to gather and analyze the data necessary for a successful inspection.

Karl Schwab

Karl designs and implements multi-camera sensor systems for drone platforms and utilizes his commercial remote pilot privileges almost daily. He has used drones for a wide variety of industrial applications, including tower inspection, survey/mapping, and roof inspection. Karl is also licensed commercially in single and multi-engine airplanes.

Christina is a commercial pilot and CFII with a Commercial Aviation and Air Traffic Control degree from the University of North Dakota. After a decade in the corporate finance world, Christina decided to return to the aviation industry. She has over 1,000 hours of flight time and owns her own small drone business which focuses on aerial roof inspections and photography.

Colin Romberger

Colin Romberger graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University as one of the first 5 students to earn a Master’s Degree in Unmanned Aircraft Systems, with a focus in Flight Operations and Systems Design. Colin also holds multiple FAA Airman Certificates for manned aircraft operations. Colin was a sky diving instructor for multiple years with over 1500 recorded jumps and runs a sUAS services company focusing on mapping and inspections. At DARTdrones, Colin is responsible for ongoing instructor development initiatives as well as the coordination of sUAS Operations Consultation Services tailored to the specific use cases and operating environments of our corporate clients. He has consulted with numerous companies and organizations on their use of sUAS for a cross section of purposes.

Will we learn how images are analyzed?

Yes, you will learn about setup (isotherms), color palettes, spot temperature referencing, etc.

I am new to drones. Is this the right course for me?

The Aerial Roof Inspections Workshop is an advanced training course. To attend the Workshop, we require students to understand how to fly a drone safely and to have already acquired a Part 107 Certificate. The class does not teach about how to fly a drone. If you have not flown before and have not passed the Part 107 exam, we recommend that you take our Phantom and Inspire Flight Training course and/or Part 107 Test Prep course at least 4 weeks prior to attending the Workshop.

Will this help me get a drone job in inspections?

If you have an interest in getting roof inspections jobs, this Workshop is a great way to get started. There is a lot of very specific information that you will need to understand to perform an aerial roof inspection. This course is designed to get you started. We will also point you in the right direction of companies hiring aerial inspectors.

If I have no inspections experience, is this class a good fit?

This class is great for someone new to inspections and also someone with inspections experience looking to get into aerial inspections.

Do I need to bring a drone to the workshop?

Our instructor will provide a drone for you to fly in the class. For insurance and liability purposes, students MUST use the provided equipment or provide proof of liability insurance with DARTdrones LLC named as an additional insured prior to the course.

Will the Workshop be hosted in more cities in the future?

The Workshop dates currently on our website are likely the only dates for 2017. We will announce a 2018 Workshop schedule as we get closer to those dates. All of our Workshops are also available to be taught as a private group training for an enterprise or government entity. Contact our sales team to learn more.

How many students are in the class?

The Aerial Roof Inspections Workshops may have between 6 – 30 people in the course. For every 8 students, we will add an additional instructor to ensure ample flight time.

How much flight time is in the class?

Although the course will not focus on flight time (as students should have a comprehensive understanding of how to fly prior to the course), the instructors will take the students outdoors on four occasions to conduct a real time Aerial Roof Inspection.
