Drone Training Startup DARTdrones to Pitch ABC’s ‘Shark Tank’
‘Shark Tank’ picks the national UAV school for special episode featuring millennial entrepreneurs airing February 24 on ABC.
SCRANTON, PA, Feb. 24, 2017 — DARTdrones, a commercial drone and UAV training startup, today announced its appearance on “Shark Tank,” airing Friday, February 24, at 9:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. CT on the ABC Television Network. 26-year old DARTdrones founder and CEO Abby Speicher is entering the Tank on a special episode featuring millennial entrepreneurs (Episode 818). The episode will mark $100M in deals since the launch of ‘Shark Tank,’ a major milestone for the the show. Speicher will pitch Sharks Mark Cuban, Kevin O’Leary, Lori Greiner, Daymond John and Robert Herjavec in hopes of raising venture capital for her drone training business.
Speicher launched DARTdrones in 2014 while pursuing her MBA at prestigious entrepreneurship school Babson College. After graduation, Speicher devoted her full attention to building DARTdrones. The drone school helps organizations and individuals fly drones for commercial use. It offers training in 40+ cities across the United States. DARTdrones boasts an expanding list of corporate and government clientele, and has trained UAV pilots for esteemed organizations including the FBI, Chicago Bears, CNN and The New York Times. DARTdrones generated +$1M in revenues in 2016.
“The chance to pitch DARTdrones to the Sharks is a huge honor. Most experts agree that drones are set to drastically improve efficiency and cost savings across dozens of industries,” said Speicher. “Overcoming the complexity of launching an internal drone program is a common barrier for organizations. The mission of DARTdrones is to help organizations safely and efficiently implement a drone program through training and consultation.”
“Analysts predict the commercial drone market to reach $127B by 2020, but it’s still the wild wild west. U.S. organizations are struggling with implementation. DARTdrones is helping these early adopters by providing end-to-end pilot training and UAS consulting,” said Amelia Owre, Director of Training at DARTdrones. “We attribute our early success, not just to the mounting demand for UAV training, but to the high caliber of our instructors and experts.” Owre is one of DARTdrones’ first employees. A U.S. Navy pilot since 2006, she brings her extensive experience flying unmanned aircraft and developing UAS curriculums for the military to DARTdrones’ strategy and roadmap.
If DARTdrones secures an investment deal on ‘Shark Tank,’ it will use the new funding to accelerate the development of corporate and public sector offerings, and will continue to expand its team of industry-leading UAV and UAV experts.
